• Analyze the formal, linguistic and aesthetic aspects of a text in essays, examinations and other assignments.
• Distinguish a variety of important critical theories including those used in your own writing.
• Develop critical thinking skills through thesis-based composition.
• Synthesize information and interpretations through research or textual analysis.
• Use evidence from the text and from academic research to defend a thesis of your own creation.
• Apply the methods of thought acquired in this class to literary and non-literary texts.
