I teach creative writing with a very specific philosophy, based on years of experience not only as a writer and teacher but also as a participant in workshops and writing groups. The rules that govern this class may seem counter-intuitive at times, but by enrolling in the course, you agree to try them in good faith. Your grade in the class depends less on the writing that you produce and more on your practice of the craft and your participation in the workshop. Quality writing, passionate writing, serious and polished and gripping writing—this remains our goal. These rules and this grading system are based on my experience in trying to create a space where writers will make the biggest leaps forward towards such writing.
